Winter Gardening Tips For The Bay Area
Even though the warm, summer days are long past us, you can still maintain a lush winter garden in Northern California. Consider the following gardening and landscaping tips, which are best completed during the months of January and February:
Plant Bare Root Plants
Bare root plants are typically dug up in the fall and then kept dormant in a cool space until they are ready for January planting. They are stored without being potted and without soil around their roots, hence the term “bare root planting” Bare root plants are a great option because they adjust quickly to new soil conditions. Additionally, due to the face that they are compact and easy to maneuver because they don’t have any soil, they can be transported efficiently. This means that they are typically cheaper than plants that come potted in soil.
January is the ideal time for bare root planting so that the plants are in their new soil while they are still dormant for the winter. Some

Outdoor lighting can be a great way to enhance the beauty and functionality of your outdoor spaces. Whether you want to highlight the architectural features of your home, create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for entertaining, or simply increase the security of your property, outdoor lighting can be a powerful tool.
There are many different types of outdoor lighting to choose from, including floodlights, spotlights, and lanterns. Floodlights are a good choice for illuminating larger areas, such as a driveway or backyard. Spotlights can be used to highlight specific features, such as a garden statue or water feature. Lanterns can add a decorative touch and provide softer, ambient lighting.
One important factor to consider when choosing outdoor lighting is the type of bulb to use. LED bulbs are a popular choice because they are energy-efficient and long-lasting. They also come in a range of colors, so you can choose the one that best fits the mood you want to create.
It’s also important

As the summer heat starts to ease off and we head into the beginning stages of fall, this is one of the best times to work on your landscape. Not only is this an important time to prepare your yard for winter, there are so many landscaping projects which thrive when begun in the fall as opposed to the summer. Here are some things to keep in mind when preparing your yard this fall.
1. Enhance Your Landscape with New Plants
September through early November is the ideal time to enhance your landscape with new plants. Whether you are adding new trees and shrubs, replacing a lawn with drought-resistant California natives, or simply sprucing up your existing landscape with cool-season annual flowers, now is the perfect time to get to work! This window of ideal planting time is past the harshest heatwaves of summer, allowing you to conserve water with your new plants, while not worrying about them wilting in the scorching sun. Additionally, you still have enough time before winter for your new

SB1383 Jurisdiction Procurement
CalRecycle has posted their final regulation text for Short-lived Climate Pollutants (SLCP): Organic Waste Reductions. Oftentimes referred to as SB1383, these regulations require jurisdictions to procure a certain amount of recovered organic waste products each year. We carry several products (mulches and compost) that qualify towards those Procurement Targets.
Our compost and mulch products (Red Mulch, Brown Mulch, Black Mulch, Black Mini Mulch) are sourced from 100% recycled organic matter (with a non-toxic colorant added) and meet the criteria established for compliance with the SB1383 regulations. See the attached Certification Letter.

Construction and Demolition (C&D) materials are not all equal. There is a wide variety of materials that have been used in construction in the Bay Area. Some of the materials are able to be recycled after they are demolished, but many however cannot be recycled. Over the past 10 years Bee Green Recycling & Supply, LLC has developed outlets and processes for many of the recyclable materials encountered in C&D Debris. In the past, we took the “good” recyclable materials with the “bad” non-recyclable materials. We always classified the one on the same level as the other, as C&D (Construction & Demolition) Debris. Because that’s what it has always been.
However, over the years, there has been a great push to recycle more and more of the materials that are received into our facility. We make great effort to recycle or divert as much material from area landfills as we can. Not only is it better resource management and product stewardship, but it is usually better economically

Base Rock & Pathway Pebbles
Why Do I Need A Base Layer?
Great Question!
The importance of a layer of base rock or drain rock is simple: Foundation and Drainage.
Foundation is simply the layer beneath any superficial landscaping. This can be anything from a pathway of pebbles, pavers or a brick patio, to a synthetic turf or a garden bed. The foundation will be what the top layers sit on, and provide support over the years to avoid annoying sinking and low spots! The foundation is also very important for drainage.
We always want to allow room for water to be carried away from our landscape, in the process of drainage. Usually, landscapers will use a base rock or drain rock, because they mesh together well under pressure, but still have enough space between the rocks to let water pass through. This is important because it prevents flooding in your beautiful garden, and avoids standing water, which can bring about a ton of other issues!
How Do I Get Drain Rock?
